The most Comprehensive, Intelligent Database Platform for the Modern Enterprise
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard: Faster, Safer, And More Intelligent Than Ever Before
01
Industry Leading
Build mission-critical, intelligent apps for online transaction processing (OLTP)
with breakthrough scalability, performance, and availability.
02
Advanced Security
Protect data at rest and in motion. SQL Server is the least vulnerable database for
six years running in the NIST vulnerabilities database.
03
End-To-End Mobile BI
Transform data into actionable insights. Deliver insights on any device?online or
offline?at one-fifth the cost of other self-service solutions.
04
In-Database Advanced Analytics
Analyze data directly within the SQL Server database?without moving the data?using
R, the popular statistics language.
05
Made For Hybrid Cloud
Get a consistent platform and tooling for easier workload mobility between your
datacenter, private cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
Faster Queries
Users want to access the data as soon as you share it with them. The Microsoft SQL Server 2016 comes with
various such options to enable faster queries. Memory-optimized tables are compatible enough to support
faster online transaction processing (OLTP) workloads with better performance due to new parallel
operations.
In-Memory OLTP Enhancements
In-Memory OLTP helps accelerate transactional workloads with great
coexistence and too many locks by moving data from disk-based tables to memory-optimized tables and
by compiling native stored methods. It can also help in improving the data storage staging process
by using memory-optimized, non-durable tables as staging tables.
In-Memory Analytics
SQL Server 2016 comes with more options to perform real-time analytics on
speedily changing storage data by putting support for column store indexes on storage optimized
OLTP tables. The resource conflicts are quite reduced now which used to occur between the two
workloads when they ran simultaneously. When changes are made to a table, the database engine
automatically maintains the changes for the index to ensure it stays up to date with the underlying
table.
Analysis Services Enhancements
Analysis Services offers two different modes to aid in the rapid analysis
and reporting: multidimensional and tabular. Both of these modes are present in SQL Server 2016 to
improve the performance. The new DirectQuery now brings in a simpler and better query in SQL Server
2016 as compared to its previous versions.
Better Security
SQL Server 2016 has introduced 3 new features of principal security. It includes Row-Level Security,
Always Encrypted, and Dynamic Data Masking. Thanks to the innovative client-side encryption technology
"Always Encrypted", the instance of SQL Server never sees the unencrypted version of the data.
Row-Level Security
It allows configuring the tables so that the users will only be able to view the rows within
the table to which you have granted access. This function restricts which rows are returned
to the user, regardless of the application being used, by automatically applying a predicate
to the query.
Dynamic Data Masking
If you have a database with sensitive data, you can make use of dynamic data masking to
obscure some of the data. Unless you particularly authorized a user to see the unmasked data.
Dynamic Data Masking is available to be used in SQL Database.
Broader Data Access
Due to continuous drop in the cost of store data and the changing number of data formats commonly used by
the applications continues to change. You need to be able to manage access to historical data
relationally as well as integrate relational data seamlessly with semi-structured and unstructured data.
SQL Server 2016 comprises new features which support this progressing environment by accessing a wider
variety of data.
Temporal Data
SQL Server 2016 supports temporal tables, which were initiated as a new standard in
ANSI SQL 2011. Additionally, Transact SQL has been enhanced to support creating temporary tables
and querying those tables for a certain time period.
JSON
With the addition of JSON support to SQL Server 2016, you can now support both the
structures of relational and non-relational data in your environment. And can also choose a
suitable model for your data needs and tasks.
PolyBase
It is now possible to use PolyBase in SQL Server 2016 to query the data in Hadoop or
Azure Blob Storage and combine the outcome with relational data stored in SQL Server.
Other Features
01
Higher Availability
A world which is always online, it is more important than ever to maintain uptime
and optimize maintenance activities for your business-critical applications. Running SQL Server
2016 on Windows Server 2016 gives you more options to better manage your clusters and storage.
02
More Analytics
Better and faster analytics features are integrated into SQL Server 2016.
Improvements to tabular models provide more flexibility in designing models, and a variety of
new tools which help you develop solutions fastly and easily.
03
Better Reporting
Reporting Services in SQL Server 2016 provides a more modern development
environment, better parameter layout options, and two new data visualizations to its report
developers.
04
Improved Azure SQL Database
Integrating new functionality into the SQL Database prior to the SQL Server, the
development team can leverage a full test and telemetry cycle at a scale, allowing them to add
features to both products more quickly.
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard
SQL Server 2016 is here to take out the fear from you! Now you can have complete and optimized control on
your data. It comes with new utilities like different data types available to be used such as JSON and
Spatial Data. It gets you more equipped with the evolving data world all around you. Managing your database
with the cloud is made quite easy and simple as it comes with some of the brilliant new tools like stretch
database, migrating and managing the database. Now you can get the most detailed reports ever with the most
advanced analysis SQL Server has ever had. Get the most out of your data without compromising its integrity
- SQL Server Standard 2016 is the most secure version of SQL yet and can do a lot for your
